Amsi's Reflection

In LASA’s E-Zine class I learned a lot about making an online magazine. Here are some examples of what I did. I learned how to use Pixlr and Vectr more than the other programs because they took less time to understand. I learned about the AP Style, which is how journalists write, about how to make ASF’s and write feature stories. I also learned about space more because that was what the magazine's topic was, so our feature stories had to be related. We did so many assignments it is hard to remember them all, but it seems like only a little while ago that I started the E-Zine class. In the beginning they were easy and got harder over time.

COVID-19 impacted me by making class harder for me. If I were to be in a class, communicating with my group members would have been easier and we would have been able to understand, engage better and we would have gotten to know each other better. Also, asking for help and receiving it would’ve not been difficult. Sometimes I would have questions until after the end of class, for an assignment that was assigned and to be turned in that same day, and I had to send an email that most of the time didn’t get a response until after 24 hours.

I liked the creative projects that we had to make, like the ASF, cover icon, designing my feature story and experimenting with wix, vectr, pixlr, photopea and gravit. Most of the creative assignments I did were simple because I was using websites that I’ve never used, but it was really fun. What I really did not enjoy was writing the mini feature stories and long texts, but it was necessary, for then I would not have an online magazine. I might have not liked these assignments, but the more I wrote the Easier it got to write more and more words each time.

Working with my group wasn’t very easy because communication was a problem, it would have been easier to be in school than online. Even though it was not easy, we did all our assignments and turned them in, even if that meant we would have to work overtime and at a late time. When we worked together it made work easier and harder. We would split the work, but do it in a rush because we lacked communication, which made it somewhat stressful, but we always pulled through. Working at school would have been much easier, but doing it remotely made me more independent and even though I learned slower, I gained more experience. It was difficult to do many things, like keeping up because everything was new, using Gravit and finding NASA interviewees. Finding NASA contacts was not that hard, I found at least 13 contacts, but it was especially hard to get interviewees, only 4 out of 13 responded.
